Here's a hard to find classic vegetarian cookbook titled... The Compassionate Cook: Please Don't Eat the Animals
This paperback recipe book is in lightly used condition for its age (1993) with just a little wear to the covers from use and re-shelving. INSIDE the pages are at least 98% free of any marks, stains or writing--I didn't find anything.
Ingrid Newkirk, Director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), presents a cookbook for vegetarians and fans of John Robbins' Diet for a New America--200 recipes for everything from eggless chocolate chip cookies and meatless chili to Thanksgiving dinner without turkey.
I recommend this book to any new veggie *or* a parent who doesn't know what to cook for their newly veggie kid! Here are a few reasons why:
1. This is family-friendly food. There are vegan versions of favorites like pancakes, birthday cake, chili, etc.
2. None of the recipes are difficult, so they work fine for a young cook.
3. They only require ingredients that you can find at a regular grocery store (except a few things in the small Asian section, and also powdered egg replacer, which can be found at any health food store, in some regular grocery stores these days, or ordered online).
4. All of the recipes are vegan.
REMEMBER----books are mailed via media rate mail to give you the best deal on shipping. The down side is that media rate mail can take up to three weeks for delivery!
