Hundreds of cooks sent in their family favorites and creative creations to include in this commemorative book. Not only are there recipes, but stories have also been included. Recipes for traditional dishes drawn from the season camps of Ojibwe and Dakota residents appear side by side with those for soups and stews from farmhouse kitchens, exotic nouveau appetizers, and savory dishes fit to feed a famished crowd. There are also ethnic recipes from all over the world including Somalia, Mexico and Indonesia.
The Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission will feature Make it Minnesotan! on Cookbook Day at the State Fair August 22. Over 70 recipe contributors from around the state will be at the Minnesota State Fair to sign copies of Make it Minnesotan! and talk with visitors about their delicious recipes. There will also be a recognition ceremony to thank all of the contributors of the cookbook with free cookies made from recipes in the cookbook and punch. All of these activities will take place between 9 a.m. and noon at the Big Top Chautauqua tent located between Heritage Square and the Grandstand.
