This is a copy of the original 1959 cookbook titled... Pillsbury's Best 1000 Recipes Best of the Bake-Off Collection ...and is in very good condition! The recipes are from the first 10 years of the Bake Off!
Now you have to know a story about this cookbook.... Back in November of 2006, JULIA MOSKIN of the New York Times wrote an article about the best vintage cookbooks and THIS one was one the best ever published! (In fact, since this is the 50th anniversary of the book, they have just published a reproduction. This is NOT a reproduction!!) The day the article was published, prices for it on eBay went from an average of $20 to over $200. Over 2 years later, it hasn't lost its appeal, but a better deal.
This cookbook is in very lightly read condition with just a little wear to the covers and spine from reading and re-shelving. INSIDE the pages are at least 98% free of any marks, stains or writing. A great copy for its age! The only thing I could find was a price in pencil one of the first pages from a dealer---and years ago it was expensive.
In 1949 100 of America's best housewife-cooks competed for $100,000 in prizes and the title "Cook of the Year". This is a collection of the winning recipes from the first 10 years of the Bake-Off competition. The recipe sections include: Yeast Breads, Quick Breads, Main Dishes, Cakes, Frosting, Cookies, Pies and Desserts.
